Mali's conflict remained very critical in the week of 28 September–2 October 2026. JNIM ambushed government and Africa Corps troops in central Mali (reported 27th September), the Bamako fuel blockade continued, and Amnesty International published a report on 29 September accusing the Malian army and Wagner of war crimes against civilians between 2023 and 2025. Crisis Group's September review also recorded the Dioura toll (over 120 soldiers killed, about 100 hostages) and heavy JNIM–IS Sahel fighting on the Burkina border. No peace initiative was identified.
