REFLEXIVE PEACE PRACTICE (RPP) PROJECT

Summary

The DRC experienced continued critical security challenges during 29 September–5 October 2026. Twenty-nine RDF-M23 soldiers surrendered to FARDC in North Kivu between 1–4 October, and 10 others were captured during counterattacks. However, M23 drone attacks in Masisi killed 8 civilians and injured 6 on 28 September, while unidentified armed men killed 3 in Kausa on 29 September. In Ituri, CODECO and CRP clashes with FARDC killed at least 16 people and displaced civilians. The DRC denounced Rwanda as an aggressor at the UN Human Rights Council, citing 4,400 human rights violations recorded since the start of 2026, including 1,080 sexual violence cases. MONUSCO warned that clashes continued unabated despite agreements, with heavy weapons causing displacement and disrupting humanitarian aid.
