Chad remained caught between two active conflict fronts during the week of 31 August–4 September 2026. In the west, Boko Haram and ISWAP continued to contest control of the Lake Chad Basin at the expense of local communities. In the east, continued fallout from Sudan's civil war, including a rare direct attribution of a cross-border strike to the Sudanese army, underscored the fragility of the February 2026 border closure and the scale of the humanitarian burden Chad continues to carry as host to over 1.3 million Sudanese refugees.
