Mali's security crisis deepened further during the week of 14–18 September 2026. On 14 September, JNIM struck the Sévaré airbase and Konna army camp in coordinated attacks, sustaining shelling of Sévaré for six consecutive nights and claiming to have destroyed key Turkish-supplied drones and helicopters. Combined with the 10 September Dioura attack, the cumulative September military death toll surpassed 100, prompting the UN Human Rights Office to call for investigations into extrajudicial killings and setting the stage for a crisis meeting of Mali's military leadership the following week.
