Niger spent the week of 7–11 September 2026 consolidating political control in the aftermath of the failed 28–29 August mutiny. President Tiani re-emerged publicly on 4 September, and on 11 September replaced his military chief of staff without explanation, while the ruling CNSP publicly accused France, Benin and Chad of involvement in the coup plot. These moves point to a regime prioritising internal cohesion and external blame-assignment, even as the underlying jihadist pressure from ISSP and JNIM in Tillabéri and Dosso, the original driver of military discontent, continued unabated.
