The country stays in the critical band this week on the strength of three separate incidents. Near Damara (Ombella-M'Poko prefecture), two people, a Swiss geologist and a Central African soldier, were killed in an ambush now under judicial investigation. In Bimbo, on the south-western edge of Bangui, a tanker crash on 7 August left somewhere between 8 (the government's figure) and 20 (the toll given by witnesses and families) dead. And in Bambouti, in the south-eastern Haut-Mbomou prefecture, three of four hostages seized in December 2025 are still being held by the AAKG militia, even after one was freed this week. None of these three cases has a resolved, named cause, which is itself the main reason the rating hasn't moved to moderate.
