During 6–12 October 2026, Cabo Delgado remained highly insecure as reports described child abductions, hostage-taking, ransom payments, extortion, and the seizure of forestry equipment. These activities continued to threaten civilians and livelihoods, while food insecurity, displacement, and suspected IEDs constrained safe access to affected areas. Some hostages were released, and government forces maintained a defensive posture to protect those still at risk. Nevertheless, the possibility that ransom payments could incentivize further kidnappings, alongside continued insurgent activity, leaves the security situation critical.
