REFLEXIVE PEACE PRACTICE (RPP) PROJECT

Summary

Burkina Faso experienced critical security challenges during 12–17 September 2026. JNIM militants executed a complex assault on Manni in Gnagna Province on 13 September, marking the third attack on the town in less than a week, using IEDs and small arms that resulted in multiple military and civilian casualties and destroyed market infrastructure. Joint Burkinabè Armed Forces and VDP counteroffensive operations repelled multi-pronged insurgent assaults in the Solhan and Gayéri regions. On 16 September, the AES adopted a legally binding roadmap in Ouagadougou to strengthen cross-border security cooperation between Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, establishing a permanent consultation framework for border authorities. Despite military counteroffensive successes, sustained JNIM operational pressure and humanitarian access constraints persisted.
