Mali's conflict situation remained very critical during the week of 31 August–4 September 2026. JNIM's fuel blockade on Bamako, reimposed since April, continued to cripple the capital's economy, while continued analysis of the group's unprecedented coordinated offensive with the Azawad Liberation Front underscored the depth of the security crisis facing the transitional military government. With Western governments continuing to advise citizens to leave and no new peace process in sight, Mali's trajectory remains one of the most volatile in the Sahel.
