REFLEXIVE PEACE PRACTICES (RPP) PROJECT

Somalia's week of 28 September–2 October 2026 was dominated by the 28 September assault on Baidoa by forces loyal to ousted South West State president Laftagareen, the third major outbreak in six weeks, with MSF reporting 3 dead and 69 wounded and the ICRC 148 wounded treated, a doctor killed, and a curfew imposed on 1 October. The government says Al-Shabaab joined the attackers, which Laftagareen's camp denies. US strikes continued, and NISA announced it killed former Amniyat chief Bashir Ahmed Haji Nunow in Jilib on 1 October.
